Morris Estate Girls Athletics

The Morris Estate Girls Athletics track program was a natural growth element of one of the longest continuously operated track programs in the country. The Morris Estate Track Club historically had been an all boys team since its inception in 1970.  During the ensuing decades a few girls would run for the club but mostly as an accommodation to families who had boys running in the program.  It was not until the 2005 season when the Morris Estate Girls Athletics program took shape when founder and Head Coach Bob Jackson asked one of his original runners, Mike Mosley, to lend a hand with the team.  Coach Mike began working with the boys on relays, starts, and jumps.  Since Coach Mike has daughters, his attention eventually turned primarily to the girls who wanted to run.

Morris Estate Girls Athletics team members range from 6 years of age to age 18.  The program has been successful over the past four years with girls qualifying and medaling in various regional and national competitions.  In 2005 Morris Estate had no girls compete in the AAU National Championship.

In 2009 twenty-three girls qualified and twenty-one represented Morris Estate in 6 relays and 30 individual events at the National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa!  This is no small feat for a team that five years earlier had no representatives at the national level.

Today, the Morris Estate Girls Athletics program consists of nearly 30 athletes, the majority of whom are honor roll students.
